Meet Momo

Momo was a joyful, spirited Italian grandmother with a heart as big as her smile. Though she was short in stature, her personality filled every room she entered. She had a remarkable gift for making people laugh, telling unforgettable stories, and making everyone she met feel special.

If you met Momo, she would probably call you “Honey.” And when it was time to say goodbye, she would gently smile and say, “Angels on your pillow, honey.” It wasn’t just a phrase—it was her blessing, her way of wishing peace, comfort, and God’s protection over those she loved.

A Journey of Caregiving

As the years passed, Momo’s health began to decline. What started as helping with housekeeping, cooking, transportation, and paying bills gradually became managing medications, doctor’s appointments, and nearly every aspect of daily life. Her grandson, Robert, became her primary caregiver, lovingly walking beside her through each stage of aging.

Eventually, signs of dementia began to appear. The woman who had once cared for everyone else was becoming increasingly forgetful, confused, and vulnerable. She became a fall risk and could no longer live safely on her own.

One of the most difficult decisions she ever faced was leaving the home she had lived in for more than 30 years. Although heartbreaking, moving in with Robert and his family provided the safety, companionship, and care she needed. As a Realtor, Robert helped her sell her home, but more importantly, he welcomed her into his own.

For a time, their home was filled with precious memories. Momo was deeply loved by Robert, his family, and everyone around her. But dementia continued to progress. She became increasingly frail, withdrawn, angry, and eventually required around-the-clock care. Despite their love and commitment, Robert and his family reached the difficult realization that her needs had grown beyond what they could safely provide at home.

Finding the right assisted living community proved overwhelming.

There were countless options, confusing pricing structures, varying levels of care, and difficult decisions to make—often with little guidance. Robert searched extensively, toured communities, evaluated care, and ultimately found a place where Momo would be safe, respected, and cared for with dignity. Even after her move, he remained actively involved in her care and advocacy.

Momo adjusted well to her new home. As her condition continued to decline, hospice was brought alongside her care team. A few months later, she peacefully passed away in her sleep.

She is deeply missed, but her legacy lives on every day.

Momo’s journey revealed something Robert will never forget: families should not have to navigate senior care alone.

The emotional weight of becoming a caregiver, evaluating care options, understanding costs, selling a loved one’s home, and making life-changing decisions can feel overwhelming. Most families don’t know where to begin—or who they can trust.

That experience inspired the creation of Angels On Your Pillow.
